Basic Method

Step 2:  Identify the recipients and decide on their shares. 

Identify the people who will be sharing the property (we'll call them the recipients) and what share each will receive (e.g., 1/3, 50%, 10%).  Make sure that the shares sum to 1 or 100%.   

Example 1:

The Sniders are dividing some property equally between their three children:  Steve, Bob, and Mary. 

Example 2:

Mrs. Nappi has died.  Her will requires that 1/2 of her estate go to her stepson Jack, 1/3 to her niece Sophie, and 1/6 to her church.
